This hand drawn animated film, based on the award winning graphic novel by Raymond Briggs, is an intimate and affectionate depiction of the life and times of his parents, two ordinary Londoners living through extraordinary events.

Ethel & Ernest is a Lupus Films production, co-produced by Melusine Productions and Cloth Cat Animation. The film was made with the support of Film Fund Luxembourg, Ffilm Cymru Wales, the BFI's Film Fund, the BBC, The Little Film Company, the National Lottery through the arts council of Wales, the Welsh government and Universal Pictures.

Roger Mainwood

Roger Mainwood studied art at the London College of Printing (now the London College of Communication) and Film and TV department of the Royal College of Art.

He started working in the animation industry at Halas and Bachelor Studio in 1979.

He directed the feature film Ethel and Ernest based on Raymond Briggs’ book about his parents.
