Nine-year-old Ren has recently lost his mother, whom he has lived with since his parents' divorced. With no news of his father and refusing to live with his legal guardians, Ren flees into the streets of Shibuya resenting humanity.
In the Beast Kingdom, the lord has decided he will retire in order to reincarnate as a deity and names two potential successors: the popular Iôzen, who is also the father of two children, and the powerful Kumatetsu, who is also lonely and lazy. This character will become Ren's guide and he'll be able to control the boy's rebel nature.
Mamoru Hosoda
Mamoru Hosoda (細田 守 Hosoda Mamoru, born September 19, 1967) is a Japanese film director and animator. Formerly employeed at Toei Animation, he has worked at Madhouse since 2005. He first came to public attention in the early 2000s with the first two films in the Digimon Adventure series and the sixth film in the One Piece series. In the later 2000s, he diversified more with other films, including 2006's The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, 2009's Summer Wars, and 2012's Wolf Children.
