The movie is set in 1941, into an alternative reality where the Second Industrial Revolution didn't take place, the electricity runs out and the war flares up. April, the main character, is a young girl who lives in a dangerous Paris and who wants to carry on the research started by her parents, before they disappeared.

Christian Desmares began his career as animator in 1998, when he realized some short movies for Je Suis Bien Content, Bilbo Films, Xilam and DoncVoilà. Since 2001 he has also started making full-lenght film, as Corto Maltese, Lescars, Le Jour del corneills, A Monster in Paris. April and the Extraordinary World is his first film as a director.
Franck Ekinci, together with Marc Jousset, founded in 1996 the animation studio Je Suis Bien Content. He's filmmaker, director, and screenwriter for TF1, France 3, Disney, Arte and Canal Plus.
