While her fiancé Tadashi toils in Tokyo, lovely young Kaori and her friends Aki and Erika head south to sunny Okinawa for a holiday, to celebrate their graduation. When the girls get to the secluded cabin where they’ll be staying, though, things are amiss the moment they walk through the door. A vile, nauseating smell permeates the place, and it’s coming from a small but horrific critter they manage to corner and crush — a fish with metallic, arachnid legs. An upsetting discovery to be sure, but within mere hours similar monstrosities are emerging from the waters by the thousands, engulfing the seaside city suffocated by the stench of death. Not just the little ones, either. Catastrophe has crawled ashore across Japan, and the horror of great underwater predators hybridized with mechanical insects is only the beginning.
Takayuki Hirao
Born in 1979, Takayuki Hirao attends design school in Osaka and then moves to Tokyo. Here, he enters MadHouse studio, at first as production assistant for series such as Jubei-Chan (1999) and Card Captor Sakura (2000), then as storyboard artist and key animator. He then starts directing episodes of TV series like Texhnolyze (2003), Paranoia Agent (2004) and Death Note (2006), to later move to the newborn Ufotable Studio as chief director for series like Futakoi Alternative (2005). The direction of the fifth movie of The Garden of Sinners (Kara no Kyōkai, 2007) imposes him as one of the most promising animation directors of the last few years.
